The West African bardic tradition comes to St Leonards!

For this special concert violinist Max Baillie invites Suntou Susso, one of the great masters of the West African griot (bardic) tradition, to St Leonards. Suntou’s instrument is the kora, a magical 22-stringed lute whose history is part of an oral tradition passed within musical families from one generation to the next. Griots have a unique societal role as oral historians, transmitting and preserving a people’s culture in song, music and poetry and have been doing so for 700 years. Suntou is a true master of his craft and one of the stars of his generation. He brings his solo repertoire from his forthcoming album, and will be joined by Max Baillie for a meeting of two string traditions each dating back centuries. An unmissable concert in the gorgeous natural resonance of St John’s The Evangelist, St Leonards.
