Haydn 7 Last Words of Christ

Sunday March 26th / 5pm
Christ Church Silchester Street
TN37 6GL

St Leonards Concerts is back with a concert marking the Easter calendar. Violinist Max Baillie writes:

‘I can’t wait to be joined by three fabulous string players Magnus Johnston, Ann Beilby, and Joseph Pritchard to play Haydn’s 7 Last Words of the Cross at Christ Church on Sunday March 26th at 5pm. This piece was written in 1787 for the Easter calendar but is also a timeless work containing some of the most sublime music for string quartet you can imagine. It’s music with an incredible spiritual power, regardless of whether or not you go to a Christian church or follow any other religion. We will re-create the ceremony that presented the very first performance in the wonderful setting of Christ Church, with Father Peter reading the headings of the movements as we go. It’s around an hour and ten minutes without interval with a late afternoon start time of 5pm. All are welcome, please join us!’
